ZTL zones are restricted traffic areas where cars are either not allowed at all or have to pay to enter these zones and various schemes have been designed to protect these historical cities and towns from traffic congestions.  They are readily enforced by cameras strategically places at various points which monitor the area taking pictures of cars number plates that enter them.

5 Parking options in and around Florence

#1 Hotels that offer to park
The best option for anyone staying in or near the city is to find a hotel that has parking facilities for its guests.  That way parking is usually free and readily available for you it should also include any tariffs you may need to pay for entering into a ZTL zone.

#2 Private garages in and on the outskirts of the city center
These are parking garages such as the Park2Go garages where you will be charged a daily rate which is usually payable in advance as a lot of them are in the city center they need to be able to register your number plate, so you avoid fines from entering a ZTL zone, just like when you rent a BMW in Munich.

They can range from 25 to 40 euros a day, but they afford you a lot less walking to the city center and attractions.

#3 Paid street parking outside the historical district
Outside of the main historical district there are various areas that have street parking, there are parking meter bays and usually, work out to be the cheaper option, but they are also a bit harder to find as residents tend to use them as well.

Check the color coding of the parking bays as white tends to be only for residents, yellow for handicap leaving the blue bays for visitors.  Make sure you keep track of the time in your meter as they can be rather sticky with this and you could get clamped, towed and fined.

#4 Galluzzo Parking Lot
